Alton Jones takes Bassmaster Classic
February 24th 2008 23:30
Alton Jones has won the 2008 Bassmaster classic with a weight of 49 lbs. 7oz. besting 2nd place Cliff Pace who hauled in 44-5. Kevin VanDam was close behind at 43-8.
This year, the 38th annual event, bass fishing’s World Cup, saw what will probably be called the worst weather in tournament history. 2008 had it all--cold, rain, even snow! Despite this, 25 anglers were pared down from a field of fifty to compete today for their share of 1.2 million dollars and the top prize of $500,000.
Alton Jones led the field as the anglers hit the water this morning under less than optimal conditions. The ironic part of the results is that daily totals for most competitors went down every day of the tournament after several twenty pound takes the first day.
Complete standings can be found here.
Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!
