Kevin VanDam is the new Angler of the Year!
August 12th 2008 00:33
Kevin VanDam showed why he's called the "World's No. 1 Angler, this past weekend by claiming his fourth Angler of the Year title.
Trailing Todd Faircloth by 21 points going into the the final contest, KVD fished hard enough to finish ahead of Faircloth and take a lead of only 88 points.
While Faircloth has been a consistent performer during this year's tournament, he faltered in this contest and finished far back in the pack at 93rd.
VanDam had his own brand of consistency through out this tournament which you can look at as a building of momentum. He began in 31st place and put together some decent fishing after that including victories at the Citrus Slam in Florida and the Bluegrass Brawl in Kentucky.
Last year's winner, Skeet Reese finished fourth and the 2008 Bassmaster Classic champion, Alton Jones finished fifth.
