It may come as a shock to some people but Kevin VanDam is not leading Angler of the Year standings this year. In fact he's back in third position.
The leader for now.
Before you think there may be a changing of the guard, remember there haven't been that many competitions yet. 2008 Bassmaster Champion Alton Jones is at the top with 1096 points and second place Terry Scroggins has amassed 1040 points so far and VanDam is lying back with 982 points.
After coasting through last season to take Angler of the Year honors, can VanDam do it again? A well known angler like Jones could bring out the competitor in VanDam and since last year wasn't that strenuous for Van Dam, it could happen AND quickly! VanDam has made 100 point swings before.
Lest you think blog is a tribute to KVD, just remember there is still plenty of time for a new leader and anyone in the Top-20 can make a push for the lead. More importantly, some of the names in that Top-20 are Mike Iaconelli, Gerald Swindle, Shaw Grigsby, and Dean Rojas, just to name a few who could make things interesting.
