This weekend, Feb. 22-24, is the 2008 Bassmaster Classic on South Carolina's Lake Hartwell. 50 anglers will compete for part of the $1.2 million payout. One from the group will pocket the top prize of $500,000 and all the prestige that goes with winning a major tournament.
That's right, I did say 50. That's the number that will begin competition Friday at 7:15AM EDT when the boats hit the water. After two days, the field will be narrowed to the 25 anglers who have the most weight in fish and a winner will be determined Sunday.
The first couple days are of greatest interest to die hard fans and picture takers. In my opinion, the most interesting part of ANY tournament is to wait until the final day (round) and see who DOESN'T make the cut.
Experts are saying that it will probably take 60 pounds of fish to win the tournament. We'll have to wait and see on that! What makes that prediction interesting is the fact that the weather is anything but what the average angler considers ideal for fishing. Last week saw temperatures fall into the 40's with rain predicted for the tournament although temperatures should rise. I did some checking this afternoon and it should go back up into the 50's or even low 60's but, predictions of rain persist.
I'm sorry but, I'm NOT going to predict a winner. Anyone there can out-fish me so, I wish them all the best of luck!
