Brad Paisley--a little music, a little fishing, a lot of humanity
November 8th 2007 04:17
Music fans are probably not going to be looking on a fishing blog to read about Brad Paisley. Maybe they should. Did you know that among his many humanitarian activities, Brad is also founder of a celebrity fishing tournament which benefits St. Jude Hospital? I figured he was just another country singer until I dug a little deeper and found out that he’s from my home state—West Virginia. BUT when I discovered that he’s been named for the same humanitarian award TWICE in less than five years I though he deserved a little attention.
With the profits from the first song he wrote, instead of taking the lead of many celebrities and spending the money on drugs, booze or cars, Paisley bought a fishing boat. Later, in 2000, the Brad Paisley Foundation was launched to benefit charities near his hometown. As a result, a student from Brad's alma mater in West Virginia was able to attend the Julliard School of Music in New York City and the Glen Dale (Brad's home town) United Methodist Church was able to rebuild after a devastating fire because of his generosity.
Never forsaking his love for fishing, The Brad Paisley Celebrity Invitational Fishing Tournament, formerly known as Hook, Line, and Sinker, was established in 2002 and has gone on to be an annual event. In addition, his work has included involvement with the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and pediatric AIDS research.
These are three of the biggies. Despite the tours and hectic schedule, Paisley has never forgotten his roots. In addition to the high profile charities already mentioned, much of his work goes unnoticed because it benefits his tiny home town of less than 2000 people.
It might be an insight into his character when Paisley revealed that his most memorable fishing experience was with his grandfather who was later diagnosed with cancer. Hollywood could not improve on this story. It was the last time the two fished together.
By lending his time, energy, and resources to so many wonderful endeavors, Brad Paisley is one of the people who give the word "Celebrity" a good name!
This video shows Brad definitely has a sense of humor. The embedding was disabled so click here. I think you'll get a kick out of it!
Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!

For you trivia buffs--that's Brad's real life wife--actress Kimberly Williams.
Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!
P.S. I wrote this BEFORE he was voted CMA Male Artist of the Year!
