Casting with old baitcasters

Not all baitcasting reels look like this.

Here's a quick video from YouTube showing how to cast with on old fashioned baitcaster. This talks a bit about "thumming" the reel to control the spool.

YouTube called this a "conventional" reel. I always though anything "conventional" was the usual going thing. If that's the case, wouldn't a "conventional" reel be a spinning reel?????

Agreed on both counts, it's a good photo and good type, but, in my opinion, not closely enough related to fishing.

But I still like it, but then again, I'm not a newcomer.
