A doughbait recipe

dough bait

Dough baits are popular for catfish. Here's a recipe that's not too difficult and stays on the hook a lot better than chicken liver!

You'll need 1/2 cup (250 ml.) each of flour and corn meal--a quarter cup (125 ml.) of both water and pancake syrup--clear or dark doesn't matter, and 3 tsp. (45 ml.) of smooth peanut butter.

On a very low heat stir the water, syrup, and peanut butter until they are combined.

In a separate container, mix the flour and cornmeal and then SLOWLY add the mix to the syrup/peanut butter until you get a fairly thick mixture.

So far, you have a good snack food but this is where it becomes fish bait. At this point you can add in about three or four torn up cotton balls. Lacking this, it's okay to use cattails. Although this step is optional, I recommend it because the cotton will absorb moisture and make your bait a little more durable.

When you're ready to fish, all you have to do is tear off a small hunk, mold it into a ball around your hook and hope for a fish with a sweet tooth.

Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
