Rub-a-dub-chub

Since we were talking about coarse fishing yesterday, I though we ought to come full circle and mention one of the most popular fish in the United Kingdom--the chub.
Although chubs look a bit different from American bass, the similarities are unmistakable. They're similar in size, both are great fighters and either will bite a variety of bait. AND, best of all, all you have to do is go down by the river, look in, and there they are! (Bass OR chub!)

You may think you have to fly fish for chub but, they can easily be taken with your average equipment--a 6-7 ft. medium rod, 6-8 lb. line, size 4-2 hooks, and a float! For bait, you can use worms, cheese, bread, or wasp larvae. This advice will get you started. Naturally, you'll find anglers who use extremely light tackle or those only seeking large specimens who use heavier tackle.
If you've never been keen on angling but want to give it a try, chubs are a great way to start!
Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
