ESPN vs. Wide World of Sports
June 5th 2007 00:43
I haven't been fishing for a few days so I've had time to think--
How many people reading this are old enough to remember ABC's Wide World of Sports? Hard to believe that's all we had before ESPN! 90 minutes on a Saturday. (I THINK it was only 90 minutes!) In that brief time they went "...spanning the globe" to bring us "..the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat." I can still remember that skier wiping out! I think that was very subtle propaganda. Wasn't he Czech or Bulgarian? I believe he came from one of the Soviet Block countries. Now we have not only ESPN but ESPN2--not to mention Versus and the Outdoor Channel which are maturations of the American Sportsman.
I think maybe those old shows had it right. Do we really need two hours of wrist wrestling???????? How about the LUMBERJACK Competition? The best thing about that is the possibility of the chain saws slipping!!!!!!!
How about a ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS competition on ESPN??????
