Try a swimbate in late fall

The flakes on the ground tell me one thing--it's late fall. While most guys are heading to the woods to bag the the local favorite, there's still fish swimming around waiting to be caught. Just because you think it's cold and miserable doesn't mean fish are thinking that way.
The big thing for fish this time of year is fattening up for winter. That means they're going to be eager to bite. The thing is, you have to know how they're going to bite. The thing you have to remember is that fish are coldblooded and will be reacting to everything much slower than usual.
For lures, I recommend a swimbait and crankbait in that order. If you're lucky enough to find a school of fish throw directly into the school and wind your lure back. If it's a relatively warm day, you can try a spinnerbait or even topwater baits in addition to your swimmer and cranker.
If you've read these posts very much, you can probably tell I subscribe to the theory of big lures=big fish. In the late fall, I throw that out the window and downsize my baits. I've never seen where hard of soft baits make much difference but I try to use something that looks natural.
And it's REAL cold??? Well, that one reason TV was invented!

Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
