Angling Fish - by James Rickard

Fishing with Senkos

July 20th 2008 00:13
If you're looking to catch big fish, Senkos may be just the thing you need because they're not just for bass anglers!

Like the Chatterbait, many companies have developed their own version of the Senko--or, to be more exact--soft stick baits, and this product is sold under various names.

A brown Senko
This is one of the most effective ways to rig a Senko style worm!
It's hard to accurately describe the Senko. Maybe calling it a "fat worm" would suffice. I was looking at a brownish knock off one day and decided it sort of looked like a couple of slugs joined a the head, minus the antennae.

The Senko rigged wacky style.
Anyone can rig this. Just hook it in the middle and throw it in the water!

Since Senkos are fairly heavy when compared to other soft plastics, you don't have to rely on a sinker. In fact, two of the best ways to fish a Senko are weightless!

Senkos are usually salt impregnated and come in various length for different applications. Something around 5" usually works for me but something longer is in order for salt water fishing.

Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!

How do they taste?

Just out of curiosity, have you tried soaking them in different stink baits prior to fishing? It'd help get rid of the human smell.

Raven,

Funny you're asking that. I'm all confused about that. I haven't chowed down on Senkos but...The Gary Yamatos I have are pretty normal I guess but I have some models by Strike King that are salty as heck but they smell like garlic. I checked the label and it didn't say anything about garlic so, go figure!

You need some real salmon eggs . . .lures soaked in that should attract attention. I'm off to snag some salmon today . . .and provide fresh blood for the local bugs, sigh.
