Good fishing, Cancun

If your vacation is in Cancun, Mexico, do yourself a favor and check out the fishing. Cancun's waters offer some of the best fishing in the world and the different species are incredible! Bonefish, tarpon, and sea trout are just some of the fish you'll find. If you yearn to sport fish, you can charter a boat for either a half or full day and try your luck at marlin, sailfish, or barracuda. Nothing beats the satisfaction of eating your own catch and many hotels in the area will prepare your catch just the way you tell them!

The equipment you use will depend on the application. As mentioned, deep sea fishing is available but surf fishing or freshwater fishing is also popular. The novelty of spearfishing is allowed in some areas providing you have a license. The safest advice is to check with local authorities to make certain that spearfishing is legal in your neighborhood and make sure your license applies.

Before any fishing adventure, anglers over 16 will need a license which is available to cover three days, a month, or even a year. Permits can be purchased at several tackle shops and marinas in the area but are usually included in the price of any charter you book.

To truly conquer the deep, after fishing, you may want to try snorkeling! Several marinas and hotels offer lessons as well as guided tours.

To get insight and valuable fishing tips or to just soak in the atmosphere, one can leave the hotel strip which many people think of as "Cancun" and head to the Cento or Downtown Cancun. Here you're going to find little of the glitzy facade of the hotel zone and mingle with day to day residents of this vacation destination.

When it comes to a place to stay, Cancun has some of the finest resorts and hotels you can find. You can pamper yourself or rough it. No matter what--it's going to be a trip you'll never forget!

Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!

Hmmm...I think I'd rather be lazing on the beach with a book and a cocktail or two ...but thanks for your suggestions.

DEEP Deep sea fishing (Marlin) in the one thing I haven't done in the ocean. The day I had it all planned, it rained. At least I got my deposit back!

Lara--that's why I like pier fishing! Nobody knows for sure what's in your cooler!
