Free Maps! (Getting there from here)

Here's a pretty handy link if you do anything outdoors, drive a vehicle, or just bike around.
I may be late jumping on the bandwagon for Google Maps but, I just started using them and I've been VERY impressed!
Granted, topographical or road maps provide fairly good picture of where you are or want to go, but what I like about Google Maps is that it's a combination of the two and works for anywhere from anywhere.
If you look up Cyber-Dunce in the dictionary, you'll find my picture so believe me when I say this thing is easy to use! For instance, I live in the US but looked up a map of Sydney, Australia. Combining the marvels of satellite imagery and a regular road map, I was able to check out the West side of the city and then pan all the way over to the Harbor and beyond. All you have to do is type a city name into the search engine and there you have it!
To give you an idea of Image resolution, it's going to vary by distance. At lowresolution/farthest distance, you can identify the large landmarks such as mountains or rivers rivers. At the high resolution you'll be able to locate specific streets, hills or even creeks.
As for the satellite images, they're fairly current-- I've read to about a year.
So, wadda wanna do? You can sit around in your underwear at 2 in the morning and plan your outdoor activities for free or spend money on printed maps that may or may not have what you need.

Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
