Gulp and Power Bait

You may think Berkely's Gulp is just a beefed up version of its Power Bait.

I thought the same thing when Gulp first hit the market but, they're two completely different products.

I have to admit that both are made as attractants to help you catch more fish but, for me, the similarities end there.

If you are into the ecology thing, or care one iota about polluting the environment, Gulp is the way to go because while Power Bait uses an oil-based formula, Gulp is water-based and will start dispersing its scent as soon as it hits the water. Remember, oil and water don't mix so, this is why I usually prefer Gulp.

When do I recommend Power Bait?

For the average person, I think Power Bait can best be used when an angler is sure fish are in the area and he wants to give himself an edge.

After saying that, it would appear I prefer Gulp. Yes and no. Either can be looked at as a tool. To obtain optimum results from the tool, you must fully understand the tool.

If the bite is there, either product will cause the fish to savor the taste of the bait a split second longer and, hopefully, make it easier to set the hook. Gulp, on the other hand, can be used when the fish may not see the bait well because of murky water, poor lighting, or heavy vegetation. Even though fish may not see the bait, Gulp will disperse and help them home in on your lure like a shark following a chum trail.

Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!

Good buys on reels

Michell 300 spinning reel
I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be doing this but, if you're in the market for a used reel, there are a couple Michell 300's over on Ebay for under 5 bucks. I guess that's USD--I didn't look because I'm not really in the market. If you look at these and start comparing, a 300 is NOT the same as the Mitchell 300X.

I would imagine that such a price means these reels need a little work but if you get one and invest a few dollars, you may have something because these old reels are like a tank! I have two of them.

diamond weight
Have you ever wished you lived some place else? I don't exactly want to pack up and move to Britain but I'm a little excited about a fishing weight that has been developed by the Brits.

A see-through weight called the Diamond weight is transparent and allows the background to show through. In addition to this, it's durable enough to stand up under months of abuse so, you may be able to get a fishing trip or two or three out of your investment.
