How to hook minnows
June 30th 2011 01:39
Here's a quick vid on how to hook a minnow.
As the video illustrates, always choose the biggest and most lively minnow in your bait bucket. Then, as the day wears on, work your way down the ladder.
For what it's worth, this is the way I hook my minnows. I've seen anglers who hook minnows at the base of the dorsal fin and I have nothing bad to say about this method. I've tried it a few times but too often, I make a mistake and end up piercing the vertebrae of the minnow!
The method in the vid is not without its dangers. If you goof, you end up either killing or paralyzing the minnow. I've experimented over the years with piercing jaw to jaw or even through the eyes, sick as that sounds, but they both sacrifice strength and you can't get a good cast.
Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
