Berkley Hotwire Superline Cutter-- better than a knife
March 23rd 2009 01:46
Berkley produces some great tools for the angler and they've finally come out with product to combat the problem of frayed ends on fishing line.
The Hotwire Superline Cutter uses heat to slice through fishing line as well as any knife and you don't have to worry about cutting your fingers.
Using a lithium battery and two AA batteries as a power source, the Hotwire Cutter slices through all types of line using a replaceable tungsten tip as well as an LED to assist in cutting when ambient light is low. If you're worried about bumping or breaking the tip, a guard protects it during down periods.
Things get a little wet and slippery when you're around the water and Berkley has thought of that. The HotWire Line Cutter has a dynamite non-slip grip plus a lanyard that goes around your wrist which makes it pretty difficult to drop the thing from your boat or off the dock.

One of the HotWire Line Cutter's best attributes is that it leaves a little melted ball at the end of your line which prevents fraying in braids. This also serves a dual purpose. How often have you watch a poorly tied knot slip, slip, slip until stress causes it to come loose? This isn't going to happen if you use the HotWire Line Cutter because the melted ball at the end of your line will probably stop the know from falling apart.
"Ah, Ha!" you say. "Isn't it just as simple to use a pack of matches?" If you've ever been around the water very much, especially salt water, you know how quickly those match heads will deteriorate. AND if you don't smoke, it can be mighty hard to remember a lighter or matches every time you go fishing!
Like most of Berkley's products, you may want to check this one out. You can even weld your soft plastic baits back together.
Until next time--watch your line and watch yourself!
