How old is too old?

Have you ever noticed the age of some professional anglers? Sure, you see guys in their 20's or 30's but, for everyone of those, you see a guy 40, 50, or even 60!
I was thinking about this the other day when I read a newspaper story about the retirement of an athletic director at a university who said, "I decided it was time to get out the fishing rod. "
Fishing isn't like other sports--say soccer, football, or even hockey. In those sports your body tells you when to get out. Maybe you're a step slower or the bruises take a few extra days to heal.
Isn't part of the idea behind retirement to slow things down? It doesn't get much slower than fishing! What are these guys supposed to do? Take up chess?
And it seems like those older guys hardly ever win a tournament. When you read about them, it's always "they won this or that back in the 70's or 80's."
I wonder if these guys aren't competition junkies! Maybe they like competing with no desire to win?!?!?!?!? Maybe the competitive urge was satisfied 25 or 30 years ago but they still need that "fix" that can only be gotten in the arena of competition?

Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!
