How to fish rip-rap
November 14th 2008 00:41
When you go across a bridge, look down and see all those rocks leading out of the water??? That's rip-rap. For the longest time, I thought it was just a fishing term but you can look it up in the encyclopedia and they don't say a darned thing about fishing!
Here's a short, common sense video from YouTube discussing how to fish rip-rap.
They're talking about catching bass which works around here but, it pretty well goes for any predatory fish that will be feeding on the littler fish who are eating the algae growing on the rocks.
I don't fish a lot of rip-rap myself because I usually give into temptation and stray away from spinnerbaits and crankbaits as the video suggests and try to use jigs that invariably get stuck between the rocks.
Aside from NOT using jigs, you may want to give minnows, worms or other live baits a try.

Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!
