Many anglers find a bait casting reel difficult to use and end up with a tangled mess. Although reels almost always come with instructions, they often go unread or the need for adjustment when changing lures becomes a pain.
This video I found on YouTube is probably one of the best out there. It outlines how to use the "automatic" features of the reel and finishes, whether he meant to or not, by touching on what old timers call "an educated thumb."
Personally, when it comes to baitcasters, I'm all about the thumb! If you practice using your thumb, you may get a new appreciation for that birds' nest nemesis because a baitcaster is invaluable when it comes to big fish or horsing medium sized fish out of weedy areas.
Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
