It's easy to make spoon baits

Spoon baits derive their name from how they were originally made.

Here's what most people think about when you mention spoons.
Things may have changed over time but, if you want to make a lure like they started using over 100 years ago, keep on reading because it's easier than you think!

The first thing you'll need, of course, is a spoon. Don't make Mom or your wife mad by stealing one. It's easy to pick up a spoon at a yard sale or thrift shop. The size of the spoon you need will depend on the fish you want to catch. A spoon like you use to eat your cereal is usually big enough

It only takes a few minutes to add a couple of holes, rings, and a hook.
After you get a spoon, cut off the handle. At this point, I should probably warn you that the metal used for most spoons is pretty tough! It's always best to start out with sharp tools because I guarantee they'll be a bit dull when you finish!

Then, all you have to do is drill a hole at each end.

On the big end of the spoon, where the handle used to be, add a split ring and treble hook--size 4 or 2 will usually do the trick.

All you have to do now is add a split rig at the other end for a tie on point and you have a lure! You MAY want to add some paint, reflective tape, or glitter but, that's up to you.

Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!

I've made four. If at all possible, use a jig saw or rotary tool to cut off the handle because they're a LOT stronger than you think!
