Will we ever see Jaws 5?

If fishing isn't your way to pass the time, a movie may be just the thing. If that's the case, you can combine the two with Jaws.
Most people know the story of Jaws--a great white shark terrorizes a beach at Martha's Vineyard. Unfortunately, Jaws also spawned three sequels--none equaling the compelling qualities of the first film.

What if I told you there was a unreleased fifth film?
Before you remember the sequels got progressively worse, let me point out that Jaws 5 reunited the late Roy Scheider (Chief Brody) and Richard Dreyfuss (Matt Hooper.)
Movie buffs probably know ALL of this but, I stumbled onto it just the other evening. Here's a teaser to whet your appetite.
Just like the original, Jaws 5, was supposed to be a summer blockbuster for 2008. As yet, it's never been released. Will we ever see it?
I surfed the web quite a bit to find an answer to that question. Sadly, I think not. BUT rather than regurgitate information you can find for yourself with little effort, let me offer up my own take on the subject.
Movie studios, record companies, etc. profit on death. I think they secretly revel in it. If Universal Studios played this game, we should have seen the movie by now because it's been over a year and half since the passing of Roy Scheider.
There is one outside chance I'm hoping for--the DVD market gobbles up celluloid at an alarming rate. I have a feeling IF we see Jaws 5, that will be the venue.

I had read somewhere that Spielberg was considering it.
The plot synopsis I had read for Jaws 5 - which never got off the ground for production was:
Quint (the fisherman from the first film) telling of the USS Indianapolis tragedy-- where most sailors survived the shipwreck, but nearly all were eaten by sharks. There will be FIVE featured sharks instead of one; they will again be Great Whites (instead of Oceanic WhiteTips, which were the culprits in the historical version); and they will be designed by the same studios resposible for the Mako sharks in "Deep Blue Sea"
I don't know how accurate any of this info is.

I'm not a Richard Dreyfuss groupie so I couldn't identify that clip where he saying, "You ruined my life!" I never saw Mr. Holland's Opus--I wondered if it's from there. The Roy Scheider clips would be easier to fake since he was in Seaquest DSV. However, he does appear to have aged properly so, that created the doubts about thse clips.
Just for the record, the clip you may find of a shark jumping from the water to catch a helicopter or people jumping from a boat right into a shark's mouth, despite what may be claimed, those scenes are from a horrid Jaws rip-off called Megladon.

JUst so you don't swim in Sydney Harbor!
I'm like Jason, I wouldn't mind a GOOD Jaws remake. Although Deep Blue Sea had its problems it had one thing going for it as far as I'm concerned--I never felt it was a Jaws rip-off. That and Saffron Burroughs standing on a wet suit! *L*
I have my own plans for a Jaws rip-off--a giant catfish disrupting the Pittsburgh Regatta. I can't decide if the fish should swim up the Mississippi River and into the Ohio or come from one of the local dams.

The shark going for the helicopter was the only thing that raised my doubts that maybe it was a real new Jaws flick.
It did fit into the style that Jaws headed - purely silly - but I did giggle

In hindsight, I think a lot of what made the first movie work was the fact that they had so much trouble with the mechanical shark and had to come up with inventive ways to hold your attention without the shark in the scene.
