How to use jerk baits

Here's a pretty good video I found with instructions on how to use jerk baits.....
Of all the lures out there, I have to say that being able to use a jerk bait is the mark of a true angler because while other lures may have action built in to attract fish, any action a jerk bait may have is imparted by the user.
You throw it out there, let it hit the water, (I've started waiting until the ripples are no longer present,) and begin reeling it back in a series of jerks. I used to make a series of two or three short jerks but have changed that this year and can see no difference when using one jerk. As the jerk bait pauses in the water, you reel in the slack and then jerk again, repeating until the lure is retrieved.
If you look for a jerk bait at the tackle store, you'll probably find the "suspending" variety. This is the type that stays fairly still in the water after you jerk. After that are the type that slowly rise to the surface and the type that sink.
Although many jerk baits have a wobble when you retrieve it, you must remember that this wobble alone is usually not enough to catch fish. Jerk baits usually get down to a depth of 4 or five feet at their maximum effectiveness. (That's just over a meter to a meter and a half for the metric part of the world.)
Here's another quick video, this time from BASS angler Timmy Horton, that may shed some light on this lure. He has some good pointers that apply to more than just bass.
Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
