Kevin VanDam Line & Lure Conditioner

Kevin VanDan Line and Lure Conditioner

I was fishing with a buddy the other day and he had a bottle of Kevin VanDam’s Line and Lure Conditioner. I’d heard of this stuff since it hit the market but I’m not one to get caught up in all the new fishing products! (God knows, there’s plenty of ‘em!) This product makes a LOT of claims so I welcomed a chance to try it!

Rather than write a paragraph on each claim, let me list the claims. (I think you’ll figure out why I’m taking this approach!) First of all, this stuff guarantees you can cast 25-30% further! Additionally it...

Eliminates line memory, backlash, tangles, or twists
Restores line performance
Leaves no oily residues or scents
Contains no polluting petroleum distillates
Is environmentally safe - non-toxic
Fights saltwater corrosion
Fights fading of tackle
Reduces water spotting on electronics & sunglasses
Eliminates odors
Serves as a superior fly line dressing
Promises unsurpassed performance in ice fishing

I don’t ice fish so, I won’t worry about that one and my fly fishing is so spotty it’d take something else to make a difference! Odors—I didn't notice anything! Water spots—sounds like we should use it in the dish washer! Honestly, it was dark so the sunglasses stayed in the car! Fading—I only used it a couple of hours! As for the petroleum claims—I’m no scientist so, I’ll take their word for it. Sounds good though and there was NO smell or greasy feeling to it.

As for what I consider to be the big claims--
I was using a pretty good line so I didn’t notice much of an improvement but my friend was using a “bargain” brand he picked up and it seemed to make it more supple and resistant to kinks or back lashes.

When it comes to casting farther—Sadly, I don’t know. I DO know things seemed to go farther but to get 25% more distance on EVERY cast-- it just wasn’t there and it wasn’t just me! 25% is one fourth the distance of your regular cast so; I think you’d notice if it was happening time after time. Did it happen? Yes. BUT it wasn’t consistent, cast after cast, like we expected.

If you really want to know what I think--I'm kind of out to lunch on this product. I'm going to stick with a decent line and pass on this stuff but, I think it does a nice job on low quality lines.

Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!

Have you tried Butt Juice fish scent? It live up to its hype.

well, at least it didn't promise that you'd catch fish...

... I can see that this would be useful, though... there must be a fair bit of friction on the reel...

I was surfing the Web at work and found Butt Juice right before the Newt shut off. Maybe it was the wrong site?????

Cibbuano,

It's not like it won't help an already good line, it just takes longer. I guess it would probably be beneficial if you used it ona real heavy mono but that's just a theory I came up with about five minutes ago!

Thanks for the comment. It shows you know your stuff!

I saw the post and thought I take the time to help clear a few things up about Line & Lure Conditioner. You are right, there are a lot of claims on the L&L bottle and we believe that they all stand on their own merit and are substantiated by our customers as can be seen on our website at: http://www.lineandlure.com/. I must point out that the product was originally created to address the stiffness and wiriness that is so common in fluorocarbon and does the job very well. Nothing on the market at the time of product development did a thing for fluorocarbon. We also wanted to make a product that was non-toxic and environmentally friendly. Most line conditioners at the time contained oils and petroleum products, which contribute to poisoning our waterways. Line & Lure does not. KVD is a co-developer on the product and not just a namesake. After 1-½ years of development and 127 formulas, we came up with the formula that we now have. Line & Lure is used by most of the BASS Elite anglers for a reason; it adds to an anglers line control and confidence. Lets face it, the line is the only thing between you and your bait. The better the presentation of your bait the better your chances of you catching fish. That’s the unspoken real benefit of Line & Lure and trust me if you are not using Line & Lure you probably are

The Nuts and Bolts.
The casting claims are an amalgam of all casting styles. Pitching and Flipping is where one will find the greatest increases in terms of percentage. You will see 20 to 30 percent distances increases with less fatigue and greater accuracy in this discipline. In general power casting the average is 10 to 15%. As for application, the directions clearly state that the first application should be allowed to dry before use. Someone using a spray and cast technique will not see all the advantages Line & Lure offers anymore then one would find healing benefits 2 minutes after using moisturizer on chapped hands. Line & Lure is a maintenance/protectant treatment and provides a sacrificial coating to line, protecting the line. This protection can make line last up to 4 times longer. With the cost of premium line these days, that’s a plus in anyone’s book. The product will perform to the claims we make if used as directed. We stand behind the product and our claims with a money back guarantee. No one has ever asked for his or her money back. If anyone has further questions about Line & Lure please call me at: 877.221.9797. I be happy to personally help you.

Hey Rob,

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the advice to use L & L Conditioner on FC line. I've never had real good luck with FC and any help at all is appreciated. ALSO, thanks for the flipping and pitching advice. Although I find myself doing a lot of night fishing this summer, my day fishing seems to be very close range stuff so your advice is definitely coming at a good time!
