Killer fish harpooned in Switzerland
July 18th 2009 01:18
Earlier this week when I heard a "killer" fish was "harpooned" in Switzerland, I was pretty excited. I was even more intrigued to learn that tourists at the lake where the fish was killed were served meat from the beast after authorities exterminated the menace.
Then I read the facts. It turns out the "killer" fish was only a little over two feet long and weighed about 17.5 pounds. I wonder if they really needed a harpoon!

The fish in question, a zander, is Popular in Europe as both a game fish and table fare. This one was 70 centimeters (two feet three inches) long and weighed eight kilos (17.5 pounds). As reported, the fish did attack half a dozen swimmers and send two to seek hospital attention before its demise.
It's uncommon for zanders to attack humans. It's suspected the fish was suffering from a hormonal imbalance which lead to its aggression.
If you want to try your luck on these big boys, make sure your tackle is heavy enough for these monsters because they can take baits, both live and dead, up to 6" in length. That's a good 15 cm., so, if they eat something that big you you we're not talking guppies.

Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!

But, that's still a large fish.
