Knots-- tangles with a name

July 28th 2009 00:52
fishing line
I heard a good one the other day--"A knot is simply a tangle with a name."

That's about the size of it. Any doubts? Try tangling your fishing line and then pick out the knots!

If line can be so hard to untangle, you may ask, why bother to check the knot at the end of your fishing line?

Knots have a way of working themselves loose. Some common causes of knot failure are snags, landing a big fish, and, unfortunately, carelessness.

You can find instructions for popular fishing knots elsewhere on this blog so, we won't go into that today.

Careful anglers will re-tie their knots several times during an outing and especially after a good fish or snag. All it takes to realize the importance of well tied knots is losing a fish ONE time to a faulty knot!

Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
