KVD Takes Angler Title Again
September 19th 2011 23:12
Kevin VanDam showed the world why he's considered the best angler around by winning a fourth consecutive Bassmaster Angler of the Year title. While doing so, VanDam also became the first angler to take both the Angler of the Year and Bassmaster Classic titles in two consecutive years. Further, this marks the first time an angler has won the title four straight years. The previous mark was three held by Roland Martin who finished his career with nine titles.
AND it goes on--VanDam now owns seven Angler of the Year titles to accompany his four Bassmaster Classic championships. He's qualified for 22 consecutive Bassmaster Classic titles and has 94 top 10 B.A.S.S. finishes. Is there any wonder why he's looked upon as No. 1?
VanDam finished with 2,026 points in the Angler of the Year standings - 153 ahead of runner up Edwin Evers, who finished with 1,873. Evers has finished second to VanDam the last two seasons. In third place was Gerald Swindle who was only behind Evers by 48 points at 1,825.
Here's a prediction on KVD--he'll retire after achieving TEN titles and after retiring from competitive fishing, he'll host his own fishing program on ESPN. The ten titles should come in the next few years but, being the competitor he is, he'll kick around the Tournament Trail a few extra years. Considering that, it may be 15 years before we see him on TV every week.
