Esca sheds some light on a new lure
August 6th 2011 01:14
I'm really not much of one for "gimicky" lures and I don't think too many people read this blog to augment their salt water fishing. None-the-less, a new lure has been making the rounds that bears closer examination.
A new design from the European makers at Escalure has been causing a stir all anglers can appreciate.
This video from YouTube will give you a good idea of how the lure looks.
Calling this new offering a "lure" is actually a misnomer since the Esca itself has no hooks. I reality what you do is tie the Esca attractor to the end of your line and then tie a leader with a jig, plug, or hook to the opposite end.
Better still, instead of worrying about a battery, the Esca powers up in saltwater through through electrolysis and can stand depths over 1,500 feet or 500 meters. And then, when you take it out of the water, the attractor turns off so, there's something else you don't have to worry about!
On an average, you'll get about 100 hours out of the Esca so, you may get an entire season from one attractor. If you're a hard core angler, you ought to get about a month.
Keeping usage in mind, it's not a bad idea to dry your attractor with a towel rather than let it air dry. Along those lines, for preservation, you may want to wash your Esca with some fresh water to get rid of the salt. Don't worry about pooping out your power because the Esca only works in saltwater.

I'm always a little leery of attractors and the like but, this may calm a lot of people out there:
