I've learned quite a bit by watch North American Fisherman on TV. This wide ranging program is one of the better fishing shows on TV and one where you can actually learn something. Unfortunately, I don't believe my local cable outlet was carrying it this year. If so, I couldn't find in the listings.
One segment I particularly enjoy is called "Knot Wars." Like a lot of fishing stuff on TV, it's a little over the top but, you have to do something to jazz up fishing for a visual medium.

On the bright side, when you're testing two very good knots such as is done in the video, you like to see some scientific proof behind the conclusions and North American Fisherman provides that.
