LOTS of equipement cheap!

This is another of those "practicing what I preach" posts!
A while back I posted about cheap ways to get fishing equipment.
Although I'm partial to flea markets and outdoor shows, last night I checked out an auction and I'm glad I did. Although I'm having trouble believing this myself, I was able to pick up sixteen rods for $7.00!

Although I'm partial to flea markets and outdoor shows, last night I checked out an auction and I'm glad I did. Although I'm having trouble believing this myself, I was able to pick up sixteen rods for $7.00!
Some of the rods were beyond salvaging but I was able to get 10 rods out of the deal and 5 reels so, I figure I did pretty good for seven bucks!
Like most things at sales such as these, buying a parcel of rods meant I had to take the bad with the good. Much to my pleasure, all I had to do with clean the grime from the equipment and most of it was ready to go. Four of the reels I saved are in REAL good shape and one is fairly good and can be used right now but needs a bail spring. I hate replacing those things but if I get industrious over the winter, I'll have a project.
I was able to get a bamboo fly rod out of the deal and that was my prime motivator. It wasn't one of the thousand dollar deals but, one of the old models made by South Bend and it's only about a 5/6 weight. But, the next time I go trout fishing...
A couple of other interesting items I picked up were a Daiwa casting reel and a spinning rod made by Ryobi. That's right, the same outfit that makes power tools!
It seems that up until a few years ago, they were putting their name on fishing equipment and, although it's not going to make you lots of money, Ryobi equipment was decent stuff! I'm told they put out a quality product at a really good price and several of their reels are still around and are still pretty durable with half decent care. Further, there's a company in Japan that still services the reels so, if you run across any, invest with confidence!
I'm usually not into using my blog as an online diary but this was too awesome not to mention!
Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!
