White is always in style

I came home sick a while back and one of those fashion programs was on telling you when to wear such and such a color. I was too sick to look for the remote so, I had to watch the program although there had to be something better on the umpteen cable channels I have.
Eventually, they started talking about white and when you should start wearing it. I guess I didn't care for fashion advice because I started thinking about the advantages of white fishing lures.
If you read this blog with much regularity, you've heard the mantra--"bright days=bright lures." That's basically true but I never discount wacky colors. However, I like to keep it even more basic for beginners and go with something white if at all possible.
White is going to show up in darker water. I was reminded of this last year when I got an opportunity to fish a pond from my youth. I had forgotten how dirty the water was and found myself using light lures.
One BIG advantage white lures have over other lures is that you can make them any color you want. You can use lure dyes, permanent markers, or even drop them in fabric dye for a few minutes.
I've had good results with any of these suggestions but I've never been able to bleach darker colors and make them look decent with any durability. If there's a way I haven't found it yet. Goodness knows I've tried! I'm open to suggestions if anyone wants to leave a comment.
Until next time--watch your line and watch yourself!
