Here's very inspiring story about British angler Nick Rowe that was broadcast on the BBC....

Nick suffers from osteo-arthritis which has affected most of his joints. None the less, bound to a wheelchair, he still gets out there and, by seeing that carp, you know he's not just catching guppies!

Here's another video...

A few years ago, frustrated at the lack of angling activities for the handicapped, Nick launched "Reels on Wheels" which is a buddy system for handicapped anglers to get out and fish with more able bodied anglers.

Here's a link to Nick's blog and more inspiration that will make us appreciate what we have!

Back in the days of the Wild and Woolly West, before they had horses, Native Americans drove herds of buffalo over the edge of cliffs and then cleaned up the remains to make use of the meat, hide, bones, etc.

It turns out that ancient man did something similar when it came to fishing.

Hair rigs and knotless knots

April 30th 2009 02:02
Since carp are one of the most abundant fish in the world, I thought you may want to check out this video from Matt Hayes. He's illustrating a basic rig for carp fishing, a hair rig.

I've tried to research carp quite a bit and some authorities say to use braided line for a carp rig. Some like fluorocarbon. This video suggests mono so, that's what I'm using this season!

Matt Hayes--fishing and photography

August 20th 2008 01:13
Here's a website I discovered and really enjoy because it combines two of my passions--fishing and photography.

The owner of this site, Matt Hayes, is a U.k. angler and photographer who has a great screen presence. I've been exploring this site and surfing the web to find out all I can about him and I think he's become my favorite non-American angler.

The title says it all for me.

The vending machine at the beginning is interesting but not unheard of. A couple of years ago I was in the Poconos (it's not just for honeymooners!). I forget EXACTLY what little town it was, but there was a beat up vending machine on a corner selling minnows. For $2.50 you got a dozen in a plastic container!
