Angling Fish - by James Rickard

Not fishing lately

August 27th 2007 03:36
I sprained my wrist the other day and the doctor said to give it a rest. That means "No Fishing!" Maybe I can't fish but, that doesn't mean I can't think about it.

Is fishing a good thing? There are some expressions that make me wonder.

When is the last time you shook hands with someone who had a handshake like a dead fish? Maybe a cold fish??????

Or you didn’t like the sound of something—“Sounds fishy to me!” What do fish sound like?

AND—there’s nothing worse that feeling like a fish out of water!

When times are slow, my mind wanders (wonders) and it’s just like shooting fish in a barrel!

I should get on topic and quit messing around. It’s time to fish or cut bait!

Top-Ten Sayings About Fishing

10. Fishing is the sport of drowning worms.

9. Even if you’ve been fishing for three hours and haven’t gotten anything except poison ivy and sunburn, you’re still better off than the worm.

8. Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.

7. Give a man a fish and you’ll feed him for a day; give him religion and he’ll starve to death praying for a fish.

6. Scholars have long known that fishing eventually turns men into philosophers. Unfortunately, it’s almost impossible to buy decent tackle on a philosophers salary.

5. Bass fishermen watch Monday night football, drink beer, drive pick-up trucks and prefer noisy women with big breasts. Trout fishermen watch MacNeil-Lehrer, drink white wine, drive foreign cars with passenger side air bags and hardly think about women at all. This last characteristic may have something to do with the fact that trout fishermen spend most of the time immersed up to their thighs in ice-cold water.

4. Give a man s fish and you’ll feed him for a day; teach him to fish and you’ll get rid of him for the weekend.

3. There is a fine line between fishing and standing on the side of a pond looking like a fool.

2. There are two kind of fishermen—those that fish for sport and those that catch something.

1. The trouble with fishing is that you were better off before you got there and after you left.

Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!
