Picking a CLOSE to perfect lure

April 30th 2010 01:22
As I've said, probably too many times in this blog, I don't believe there's a perfect lure out there.

Any lure you pick up, especially from major manufacturers, has probably caught a couple of fish at one time or another.

I'm not a big believer in color having that much affect on fishing. However, I do put some stock in it--maybe 10%, For instance, if fishing is slow and the old tried and true light lures for the day is not working, then I'll pull out a lure more like the local forage.

If the bite remains slow, there's one more trick you can use and it works everywhere no matter what kind of lure you use.

Try a lure with red under the "gills" and near the tail. This is going to resemble an injured baitfish and you have to remember predators often go after the weak or injured.

Rather than shell out five or six bucks for a new lure, take one you already have that's not too productive and doctor it with a red permanent marker, "Permanent" is the operative word here so watch what you're doing and don't go overboard!

Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
