It never hurts to have a game plan

If you’re like me, there are days when fishing is the LAST thing you have time for. Family, work, and other obligations take a big chunk of time until not much is left for leisure activities. That makes the time you do get out there that much sweeter.
Sometimes it helps when things go a little wrong. Your brain gets to deal with a different set of circumstances than you’ve dealt with all week and you get the satisfaction of solving the problem.
The little problems are easy to deal with and may actually enhance the experience. It’s the big problems that spoil the day and make you end up brooding all the way home.
A little planning goes a long way toward making a rewarding trip. It never hurts to have a game plan for your excursion.
Game plan? I’m going fishing! Doesn’t that say it all? It says what you’re going to do-- not how you're going to do it.
Begin your trip by focusing on the task at hand. Make sure you have the proper tackle and bait. If you use a boat, what about the drain plug? AND once you get to the launch ramp, don’t forget to loosen any straps holding the boat to the trailer.
Once you’re in the water, an organized boat goes a long way in reducing the time you spend sorting through clutter to find things. Just like your teacher said, “A place for everything and everything in it’s place.”
There are preparations you go through with a boat but, there are still things you need to do even if you’re fishing from the shore.
Organizing your tackle box cuts down on a lot of time wasted searching for tackle. This doesn’t have to be anything major—separate crankbaits, topwaters, spinners, and made a space for softplactics and jigs and you’re well on your way. I like to sprinkle in sinkers here and there. Maybe I should be more organized with them also but, too many sinkers in any one area makes a heavy spot.
It doesn’t matter if you’re going after the “big one” or trying to catch anything that bites. Having a game plan can make the trip more rewarding!
Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!
