Fish & pollutants
May 9th 2009 02:56
Sometimes you read things and say, "Hmmm." Other times you read things and go "Duh!!!" I've been in the "Duh!" mode lately and found another one.
Did you know pollutants from coal fired power plants can affect fish? It's news to the people at the University of Pittsburgh!
To be fair, we must realize this study was done in November of 2007. None the less, by then wasn't there a lot of people saying we were screwing up the environment?
Be that as it may, the report found higher levels of mercury and selenium in fish caught nearer the power plant than in other areas around Pittsburgh which has three major rivers, the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio.
The report goes on to state that ingesting can result in birth defects and neurological problems.
Not to pat myself on the back but, I've written about all of this and the associated horrors before so, I'm not going to rehash what has already been said. I was drawn the report because I live beside the Allegheny and fish there most of the time and work with people from Kittanning which is about 30-45 minutes from Downtown.
Until next time--watch your line and watch yourself!
