Recycled fish--a lifestyle that runs downstream
August 5th 2008 00:30
I'm not overly political but, here's my latest cause--you can't keep writing about the environment and not be part of the action.
I ran across the organization known as Recycled Fish about a month ago. Although they began as a group espousing catch and release, they quickly realized this practice alone will not save our fisheries or environment and has grown into an organization advocating stewardship of all natural resources.
There are several environmental groups out there. However, before you lump Recycled Fish in with the rest of them, it's important to know what they're NOT.
Rather than simply being preservationists, Recycled Fish champions taking care of our environment with a belief that "...lifestyle runs downstream."
Another big NOT for Recycled Fish is that they are not lobbyists. In fact, the way their charter is set up limits political activity.
Now that we know what they AREN'T, what are they?
To put it simply, Recycled Fish is an organization of sportsmen dedicated to the care of our natural resources--NOT just fisheries! Taking a holistic approach, members limit waste and consumption.
Recycled Fish is one of the few organizations you can join and actually get something for nothing! For simply taking the organization's pledge you get a membership kit that includes fishing hooks, coffee singles, and discount coupons for various stores! Aside from the FREE membership, there are also provisions for donations and their premium membership includes a nifty T-shirt along with other useful gifts.
I know this all sounds simplistic. Common sense is like that!
Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!
