You may not live around a Dick's Sporting Goods but, if you do, you may have to start looking at them in a new light.

Dick's Logo
I first became aware of Dick's a few years ago when they moved into this area. I must admit, getting ex-Steeler quarterback Terry Bradshaw as a spokesman worked because many people thought a Pittsburgh based company was springing up. In reality, the company is out of New York. None the less, you know how die-hard fans are, when Terry said that was the place to be, people showed up.

So it went for a few years. I figured they were just another box store carving out their niche--hardware, electronics, and finally sporting goods. It was the way business was going.

Dick's generosity came to my attention right after I joined Recycled Fish. I'm not going to bore you with facts and figures but, a large portion of our operating budget comes from them.

Dick's generosity is further evidenced by its donation of outdoor equipment to Recycled Fish's Gear Program where people can actually borrow tents, fishing rods, backpacks, and other outdoor gear to try their hand at outdoor activities.

I want to give thanks to my buddy Teeg Stouffer, the director of Recycled Fish, who helped me with this post and has provided a kind ear through the tough times I've been experiencing the past few months.

Until next time--watch your line and watch yourself!

Although I've talked about baitcasters vs. spinning rods and their differences in the past, not everyone reading this has been around since Day One.

Granted, it's something every angler should know BUT every journey of knowledge has to begin somewhere so, if you don't know or feel a little fuzzy on the subject, I understand entirely!!

rods

Going to the tackle shop or sporting goods store to buy a fishing rod can be a mind boggling experience. There are so many varieties out there that it’s a good idea to make a few decisions ahead of time so you can pare down the selection.
