Do rules always apply?

If you're fishing in you uncle's pond or on your own property, you may think you can escape regulations and limits but can you? Private lakes and ponds may require even more conservation than public waterways.
It's not uncommon for Local Government Officials, around here the Dept. of Natural Resources, to stock public lakes, streams, and other water ways. On the other hand, if you have a private water hole, there's some fish there and that's it. They, and you, depend on their own propagation to replenish depleted stocks. To put it bluntly, once you catch that big bass, that may be it.
Size and weight restrictions are there for a reason. It's not just a fishing thing either. It's the same thing with hunting. If you take the biggest anything out of the breeding pool, you may never see another creature that big and if you do, it will probably be years before you see a majestic creature again.
There's no denying the appeal of fresh meat but before you decide you just caught dinner, you have to quickly decide if there are many other big specimens of that species in the area.
It doesn't matter if you call it, Catch and Release or Selective Harvest. It amounts to the same thing--a little common sense means there's something out there for the next generation of sportsmen.

Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
