Watch those hands, fella!

November 20th 2009 01:50
fingers

As anglers, it's important to always consider any scents that may be on your hands. Even if you can't detect an odor on your hands, fish may and that can be the reason for a light bite or no bite at all!

Worse still, washing away offensive odors such as gasoline or cigarettes merely substitutes one odor for another. In these cases, the lingering scent of soap or hand sanitizer can last long after you think you've cleaned your hands.

It's a good idea to grab a handful of soil, rub it into your hands, and then cast your line. This is doubly important if you're like me and retrieve your line through your fingers. Rubbing dirt on your hands will eliminate, or at least mask, any unnatural odors that might exist.

Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
