Shark Week begins July 31
July 13th 2011 14:38
You can always tell it's summer in the U.S. by three things--the 4th of July, the MLB All-Star Game, and Discovery Channel's Shark Week.
Two of these events have passed but the third, Discovery Channel's Shark Week will begin July 31 at 9 p.m.
The entire week of prime time programming is devoted to enlightening the public about sharks with at least a couple hours, usually more, devoted to the sea's apex predator.
Although some program topics may be as inflamatory as expected, other topics have included studies on the biology of different sharks, their dwindling numbers throughout the world, demystifying the movie "Jaws" and even a documentary on real-life events that inspired the movie.
Let's be real, in this day and age it's hard to devote three hours a night for an entire week in front of the television. Anything you can watch is a nice alternative to summer reruns.

Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
