Weekend tip--Bring soft plastics back to life
March 22nd 2008 00:33
You're getting ready to head to your favorite fishing hole after a long winter of inactivity only to discover that you were a little careless the last time you returned your favorite soft plastic bait to your tackle box. Maybe a worm is kinked up or the legs on your favorite lizard are sticking to the plastic tray. Before you throw them in the trash and head to the tackle shop, try this and maybe you can make them usable.
Drop your soft plastic baits in a pot of boiling water and wait for about three minutes. You'll be pleasantly surprised to see the come back to life! For stubborn kinks, I've let baits go as long as five minutes with good results.

Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!

Boiling helps to get rid of that "rubbery" odor too. So far, it has seemed that just the cheaper soft plastics take on "kinks". In a way I'd like to try and mess up some on the softer plastics and see what happens but, I'm the kind of guy who says, "If it ain't broke don't fix it" so, I doubt if that's gonna happen unless things fall into the "have to" category!

I think the THREAT of boiling water my get their attention. Actually being IN the boiling water may distract them!
