Spinner baits are one of the most versatile lures an angler can have in his tackle box.
A term you often hear is "Slow Roll" when it comes to spinner baits. This simply means reeling slowly to allow the lure to glide across the bottom and gently tick every weed or obstruction in its path. With a little experience, you'll be able to "read" the ticks and know if your lure is hitting underwater vegetation or something more solid. If this is the case, raise you rod tip in an effort to go over the obstruction. A slow retrieve is imperative with this tactic because if you go too fast you often cause your spinner bait to hang up on the obstruction.
Unfortunately, I don't have the degree of success usually associated with spinner baits. That's the main reason I watched this video from YouTube with Wayne Gustaveson.

In addition to penning several fishing articles, Gustaveson is THE man when it comes to fishing in at Lake Powell and has been associated with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources since 1975. If this wasn't enough, he also gives "How to Fish" seminars. While he may be a biologist by trade, he's a fisherman by choice and we could all learn a thing or two from him!

This video caught my eye because I have a spinner bait similar to the one featured in the video. I'm going to do a little touch-up on the paint, change the blades, and see what happens.
