Staying hydrated

Although here in Pennsylvania, summer heat is the LAST thing on people's mind, the sun actually does shine in other parts of the world. AND it will shine again here!
A couple of things are important when you're fishing and the sun is beating down. Those important items are sunglasses and drinking water. I've talked about sunglasses before—they're going to keep the glare away and make it easier to see. It's easy to know when you need sunglasses. Usually, if you find yourself squinting, it's time to pull out the shades!
It doesn't matter if you're fishing, hiking or whatever; it's always a good idea to stay hydrated when the sun is out. Collapsible water containers have become a staple of campers everywhere and it wouldn't hurt to follow their example.
Water bottles used today are often constructed from high tech plastics, resulting in unbreakable, ergonomic and leakproof containers. You can fill a portable jug at home or on site and take it with you. The main thing is just make sure you have enough!
Gone are the days when a sip of water meant drinking from a metal canteen. There are plenty of different water bottles on the market these days. You can get something very simple that's barely a step up from an empty soda bottle to sport bottles that contain their own purifiers. On the other hand, if you prefer a canteen, those are available too!
The health craze brought one problem to the forefront. Recently, Nalgene bottles were shown to contain traces of a carcinogen, BPA, which is a byproduct of plastic break down. Although the traces turned out to be basically harmless, Nalgene baby bottles were removed from shelves. Afterwards, Nalgene's bad reputation persisted among certain individuals although the benefits of occasional use of Nalgene bottles outweigh the risks.
So, remember it's always a good idea to grab a drink now and then when you're out fishing. Just don't drink from the river!

Until next time--watch your line and watch yourself!
