Stocking stuffers for the angler
December 13th 2008 20:09
Christmas is getting closer and closer. Maybe you have your shopping done except for that one little thing. Here are a couple of suggestions that may come in handy for the angler on your list.
The first picture may look like simple nail clippers but they come in mighty handy when you're tying knots! If you have a big tag end on a knot, a knife will probably take care of the offending string. However, if you're worried about cutting your fingers instead of fishing line, clippers like these are just the thing! I picked up the larger clippers, marketed for fishing, at a tackle shop and paid two or three buck for them. I got the smaller version one day when I went to get car parts. There they were, sitting in a bucket on the counter for 89 cents a pair. What would you have done?????
The other item I recommend is a folding shovel that is usually marketed to campers. I prefer something a little larger for camping because the blade is similar in size to a garden trowel. Although it's a bit small for real work, it's just the thing for digging worms or grubs. In addition, the handle folds up so it can slip into your tackle box and take up very little space! A stainless steel version like the one in the picture will last a lifetime and cost under five dollars!
Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!
