The "NEW" look of fishing rods
October 7th 2010 04:17
The other day a guy at work mentioned that fishing rods are different they used to be. To back up his hypothesis, he showed me the picture at the right depicting some St.Croix rods.
The "skeleton" design is slightly newer and has been on the market the past few years.
It makes a lot of sense if you think about it. Most anglers palm their rod and hold it close to the reel area anyway. Along those lines, the handle area is often neglected and used only to lever big fish out of the water. Another, totally economical reason, is that it takes less material to make a grip for such a rod. This can be to the benefit of the manufacturer and later on for the consumer when a price tag is determined.
No matter how "cool" you may find this design, it's far from the "new look" in fishing rods. In fact, as you can tell from the picture at the left, they coexist with rods having the handle fully covered.
Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
