Thoughts on Yum's Money Minnow
August 13th 2009 00:29
If you wanted to be corny or plagiarize Yum, you could say their offering to the swimbait wars is right on the money.
Jesting aside, I've found the Yum Money Minnow to be a decent lure at a fairly decent price. The thing I like best is that you can slow down your retrieve and the bait still wobbles and skitters along like a real fish would do. Another feature which can come in handy to anglers is a hook slot which facilitates rigging and makes for easier hook sets.
Casual anglers should be warned the Money Minnow requires care in rigging. Otherwise, you might as well throw a rock into the water because that's what the Money Minnow reminds me of when the rigging fails. I think one of the reasons for this the Money Minnow's soft body which can be viewed as both a blessing and a curse. The subtle movements of the body can lead to more strikes but it also means you should check your rig before every cast.

Another problem you can attribute to this soft body is a basic lack of durability. Its not uncommon to ruin a lure during rigging problems and end up trashing the lure before it hits the water. A little glue helps in this regard but be forewarned.
Despite these shortcomings, I'd definitely recommend the Yum Money Minnow to my friends because of its life like appearance, color availability (over a dozen), and size availability since the lure can be purchased in three sizes to go after most game fish including salt water species.

Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
