Try the Aviva Fishin' Buddy

There are a lot of gimmicks out there when it comes to fishing and too often those gimmicks are aimed at kids. Great times and record setting catches are promised but the sad fact is that kids don't grasp one important concept of fishing, it's a lot of hurry up and wait.
One of the neatest things to come down the pike in a while can provide great fun for kids, give them something to do when the fish aren't biting and even make things a little easier on Mom and Dad. Give the kids the Aviva Fishin' Buddy!
The Aviva Fishin' Buddy is a remote controlled boat that trails a fishing line to catch fish. The nice thing is that even if you don't catch a fish, you can still play with the boat!
Like most remote controlled devices, the Fishin' Buddy uses a lot of juice so, the battery is only good for about 5 minutes of use. That may not seem like a lot for fishing but the idea is that you don't troll back and forth over a school of fish. You can do that but, you run the risk of scaring the fish. The thing to do is simply guide the boat into a fish infested area and wait for a bite. Then, like I said, if you don't catch anything you, or the kids--lets not forget the kids, have a toy.
The Fishin' Buddy isn't a little kids' toy! It's aimed at the "8 & up" group. I would put emphasis on the "up" group. Younger kids may lack the eye-hand coordination necessary to handle a remote controlled craft. Also, no matter how old the child may be, don't let them run the boat out of range. The control sends out a signal around only 50 feet. Further, only use the Fishin' Buddy when the water is fairly calm. Waves or current will play havoc with attempts to control the craft!
As for the the controls, it's really going to vary with each boat. Let's get real! We're talking about something that costs only around 60 bucks so, what can you honestly expect? However, I will say you get your money's worth. Also, the Fishin' Buddy is fairly durable. It's not going to fall apart the first time you run it ashore and you don't have to worry about leaks.
What impressed me the most is the safety factor. Granted, a kid can deliberately stick their fingers into the whirring props on the engines but the blades are recessed in protective housings that prevent tangles from the trailing fishing line or, most importantly, prevent kids from accidentally cutting their fingers on the props.
All in all, the Aviva Fishing' Buddy is one of the better kids' fishing gimmicks out there. You can check out their website here.
