Try "Urban Fishing"

November 13th 2010 01:36
urban fishing

A lot of people think you can only fish if you get out of the city and they end up taking two or three hour car trips to the country. Not so! Urban areas can provide countless hours of quality fishing without the time and expense of a long trip.

Many cities have parks situated around rivers or lakes that offer a wide variety of species. Anglers often pass on these areas so, the fish will bite on almost anything. Better still, the state license you already have is often the only permit needed to enjoy this often untapped resource!

If you live in a city or town, check with a local tackle retailer. They can usually tell you the best and closest places to fish. In some areas outdoor clubs make regular excursions to these areas so, the clubs may be worth investigating.

One of the biggest pluses to urban fishing in the fact that you don't need to modify your equipment. The rod and lures you already have will work unless you are traveling far away from your home and then you may need to change lures to attract the local species. If you get into the urban scene very much you may think about a backpack especially made for anglers or a collapsible rod to make it easier to take advantage of mass transportation.

Someone is probably asking, "Is it really worth it?" As state earlier, the fish aren't very pressured and the terror from boat wake is almost non existent. Weekends, dusk, or night time may be your best bet since people and traffic lessen during these times. You may have to fish a little deeper but it's definitely worth it.

Remember to take the hooks outta yer pocket before ya sit down!
