Weekend tip--going weedless
August 25th 2007 00:22
Rigging your worm "weedless" is one of the most efficient tactics you can use and after you've tried it once or twice, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.
To go weedless-------------BEGIN WITH A WORM HOOK--ONE THAT HAS A CROOKED SHANK!
1 Push the point of the hook through the tip of a plastic worm head until the hook's barb is completely inside the plastic. Then, punch the hook back out the side of the worm.
2. Slide the hook through the worm and turn the point of the hook back toward the underside of the worm.
3. Lastly, push the point straight through the worm, exposing just the point.
It's that simple! The worm should be straight. If it isn't, you may have used an improper angle when you pushed the hook through the worm or you may have pushed the hook through too far or not far enough along on the length of the worm. At any rate, if things don't look right, you can back the hook out and try it again!
This is a great rig for pulling big ones out of weeds or other vegetation. You can also use this set up with a plastic lizard or tube baits. For the purpose of illustration, I used a hook that was a little large for this worm!
Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!
