Weekend tip--figuring weight without a scale
November 24th 2007 01:43
This is one of those formulas I never remember and have to carry a copy in my tackle box. You can figure the weight of a fish by knowing its length and girth.
Measure the length.
Measure its girth at the widest point.
Multiply the length by the girth squared.
Divide by 800.
Ex: For an 18” fish with a 9 inch girth.
18 X 9 X 9/800 = 1.82 pounds—less than 1 kilo!
Who figures out these formulas? Ya think they have too much time on their hands?
Until next time--watch yourself and watch your line!
